I always seem to photograph objects in series.
These photos of vases were all collected on a trip to the Baltic Sea, which started with a trip to Dresden. Many of these vases traveled to Dresden or Saint Petersburg; several were conceived and crafted in the city I found them in.
A single form can reveal a lot about the history of an area, revealing the collector’s eye in a monarch and the inspiration sources of the artists and architects working in a city.
Silhouettes, colors and scale vary as widely as the times and tastes in which they were made or collected.
