Author's Talk With Roger Thomas

The designer has accumulated stacks of sketchbooks. Four decades’ worth, each filled with doodles, whims, observations, and inspirations that Roger conjures into magical interiors and creations.

“When I’m just wanting to think, but not think about anything in particular, I often start a drawing. The colors and patterns are like a jazz improvisation,” Roger explains.
From such improvisations, Roger creates entire symphonies of luxury. “Balancing a room is like balancing a piece of music.”
Composing at a grand scale.
He might be composing at mega-scale — he’s delivered a series of opulent Wynn Resorts around the world. Or he might be arranging notes at the level of a tabletop. Every single element of a Roger Thomas project goes through meticulous self-scrutiny: the imposing chandelier overhead, the inlaid glass in the marble underfoot, the accessories atop the antique consoles spotted at a Paris auction years before.
