Noble glory that can’t be faked

In Art and history, Designs, Travels and events by Roger Thomas

It’s impossible to fake the nobility of time-worn patina.
Arthur and I visited the Querini Stampalia collection in Venice to see the exhibition of the two “Presentation of Christ” panels created ten years apart by Andrea Mategna and his brother-in-law Giovanni Bellini. On the way to see these intriguing panels,  which contain self-portraits,  I was reminded of the very long life of this noble building, evident in the walls, the mirrors, the furnishings and the paintings.
Faded but still glorious.
