Here are some of what I think are the most important, influential male images in history: Raphael’s depiction of Michelangelo in the amazing School of Athens in the Papal Apartments of The Vatican; a Roman copy of the Discus Thrower; two extraordinary Roman bronzes, of a young athlete (above) and The Boxer at Rest, and Pietro Tacca’s Renaissance masterpiece of St Sebastian.
