Captivated by a master’s hands: John Singer Sargent

John Singer Sargent painted the finest portraits in the world for five decades, starting in the 1870s.

I am captivated by the expression of the subjects’ hands. They are as telling and evocative as their faces.

I captured these at the Metropolitan Museum exhibition, “Portraits of Artists and Friends,” which I first saw in London at the National Portrait Gallery.
