A feast at Voorlinden

In Art and history, Travels and events by Roger Thomas

Voorlinden, in Wassenaar in The Netherlands, opened a few years ago to house the art collection of Joop van Caldenborgh. He and his daughter, Yvette, hosted a warm reception and tour during my pre-lockdown visit to the area in March.

The MOMENTUM exhibition then on view, curated from their extensive private collection, was a feast of great delight and great variety.  The tour continued into rooms focusing on major artists in the collection including Anselm Kiefer, Ron Mueck and Richard Serra. The finale was the magnificent library which convinced me that its architect, Andrea Milani, is a true master.

The museum plans to reopen on June 1 following its closure during the coronavirus outbreak in The Netherlands.
