“Interesting times” at the Biennale

In Art and history, Travels and events by Roger Thomas

This year’s Venezia Bienniale, “May You Live In Interesting Times,” certainly lives up to its title –  most often used as a curse. We went for an introductory passage through the Arsenale, one of the two largest exhibition venues. The artists, at least all who are without a brand identity to perpetuate, are fearful and therefore angry, worried or at least pensive. The work on view varies from beautiful, thoughtful and elegant to just plain not interesting and ugly. These are the ones I thought worthy of consideration.
