Giacometti retrospective

In Art and history, Travels and events by Roger Thomas

In September, I joined Ruth Martin (see the last photo), my dear friend from our days at the Boston Museum school, at New York City’s Guggenheim Museum for the historic Giacometti retrospective.
As almost everything in the exhibition was on loan from the Foundation Giacometti in Paris, these works had never been seen before.
The most expressionist of the late 20th century sculptors and the ablest to capture the existential conundrum of postwar humanness in portraiture, The late works, in particular, are a marvel of tension complexity and simplicity.
The exhibition is currently shown in Guggenheim in Bilbao.
