Graham Street Wet Market: Quintessential Hong Kong

In Travels and events by Roger Thomas

Don’t tell anyone but my favorite place in Hong Kong is the wet market on Graham Street. The week before Chinese New Year it is a riot of colors and textures. This ages old market sandwiched between sleek high rises is, for me, quintessential Hong Kong.

The authenticity on Graham Street makes a great contrast with the equally colorful but more synthetic celebratory displays in the city’s countless shopping malls. Shown at bottom are three photos from the Landmark, the complex in the heart of Central that still sets the luxury standard for retailing in the city.

Happy New Year of the Monkey.
